TransCanada tweaks pipeline plan to avoid wetlands

Sacramento Bee -- A Canadian company seeking to build a pipeline to transport crude oil from Canada to Gulf Coast refineries has submitted a new application for the southern segment of the project that avoids sensitive wetlands in Texas

TransCanada spokesman Terry Cunha said that is why the company withdrew the initial application that drew the EPA's ire. The decision to drill under the wetlands and in some cases move the pipeline a few feet "to protect a farm house or a grain bin" were done to meet the requirements of the Army Corps of Engineers.
TransCanada believes it will have its permits in place to begin constructing the southern portion of the pipeline this summer, Cunha said.

TransCanada is still trying to find the easiest route to get their product to market so the highest profits can be gained. Wait for the first spill on US soil. TransCanada won't pay for cleanup, but that's okay from the way most people here seem to see it.

Good to see this article get a lot of readers.

Aside from the usual emotional and fact free posts, it's pretty clear that most people understand the benefits, cost efficiency, safety and overall need of pipelines for our country.

It has been clearly shown that Canadian oil is technically no different from the South American tar sands oil we currently import. It will also be less expensive and mutually beneficial to both Canada and the US.

These BIG GREED corporations are only interested in one thing. Obscene profits.

AND they do not care who they have to step on.

Excellent comment from NHLiveFree ... and bears repeating:

Now that is a company with real 'heart' and suddenly so considerate of Texas wet lands even!

TransCanada is more likely "tweaking" a few more Congressman to pave the way for the grand scheme and pipeline all the way to China. There is still nothing guaranteed for the USA from this acidic Alberta crude.

With the huge number of pipelines crossing the US, one more will not matter that much. Tie into existing pipelines whenever possible to reduce material, transportation and labor costs. Avoid sensitive, geological, natural or scenic areas AND surface and ground water aquifer regions. Barry will have his say so, either good or bad. TransCanada has used 'imminent domain' to acquire private property illegally for the pipeline. Private Property is Private Property, it should Not be taken under force or strong persuasion!
Big Oil continues to sell fuel and natural gas on the world market for higher prices, there will be NO price reduction for the cost of fuel or natural gas IN the US. 'Coming out of the closet' Barry will support natural gas and oil production for sale on the world market to pay for his ‘spending gone wild’ addiction and receive the huge federal tax income for oil. Barry's economy is not improving but continues to hurt the population. The US ‘oil and natural gas resources’ belong to the citizens of this country and are to be used by those same citizens! Speculators, manipulators and the banks continue to unfairly and unjustly make the driving public pay higher prices at the pump for their benefit.
Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost, if possible!
The price of fuel at the pump is too high!

This is the least of their problems. How are they going to push that THICK crude through the pipeline inexpensively?

Try building your own refinery. It will not lower the fuel cost in the US if it is sold to the World market. Just added air pollution

There are not many wetlands in Texas. That is why we try to drink Canada dry.

It seems TransCanada is pretty confident. I think they are out of luck until we have a new president.

Do you really want Canada running a pipeline through anywhere in the U.S. just to sell the supply to developing economies like China and India?

The issue is not where the oil will go to get to the coast but where it will go after that. It will go to the highest bidder. It won't go to the U.S. It will not lower the U.S. domestic price of gas.
