Hmmm...."Nuclear power has shown itself to be costly, dangerous as well as expensive to manage.
(remember, taxpayers will continue to pay BILLIONS every year to store old radioactive nuclear waste until - when and IF - somebody can come up with a safe way to handle it)" =========================== This appears to be another "bait and switch" aka "smoke and mirrors" spin from one with a strong opinion but no credible source to back it up. I wonder where this "BILLIONS every year" cost to taxpayers figure comes from? Perhaps another thought from one who lives in terror, fear and paranoia flamed by an agenda driven media? INMO, yes. Nuclear power is the only large-scale energy-producing technology which takes full responsibility for all its wastes and fully costs this into the product.

Joeski1,
Thanks for an article and comments from the real world.
Nuclear power has shown itself to be costly, dangerous as well as expensive to manage.
(remember, taxpayers will continue to pay BILLIONS every year to store old radioactive nuclear waste until - when and IF - somebody can come up with a safe way to handle it)
The risks and costs of nuclear far out weigh the benefits.
This is the reason why European countries & others are moving away from use of nuclear power.

Dang it must be miserable living in fear and paranoia.

Not sure if this is good or bad. The fish is probably fine with this radiation level, and sushi eaters world wide will probably eat less of it. So that'll be good for the Pacific bluefin tuna population. But that maybe bad for other species of tuna that are even more threatened.

Market it as glow-in-the-dark tuna for a midnight snack when the refrigerator light is burned out.

Good comment NHLiveFree.
I would add that this radioactive toxic mess is man made, therefore it will be up to humans to clean it up.
mpg611 from Cleveland asks:
"Will the radioactive fish lower gas prices in America?"
No. But they may contribute to increasing gas prices.
FROM THE ARTICLE:
The real test of how radioactivity affects tuna populations comes this summer when researchers planned to repeat the study with a larger number of samples. bluefin tuna that journeyed last year were exposed to radiation for about a month. The upcoming travelers have been swimming in radioactive waters for a longer period. How this will affect concentrations of contamination remains to be seen.
Now that scientists know that bluefin tuna can transport radiation, they also want to track the movements of other migratory species including sea turtles, sharks and seabirds.

Poor Charlie, we knew him well!
No it is an ENERGY Forum and the irradiated tuna was caused by a serious accident at just one nuclear enrgy plant in Japan. Wake up folks, but then again you may hope of believe that Mother Nature will heal all including this toxic mess.

From the article: "Japanese consume 80 percent of the world's Pacific and Atlantic bluefin tuna."
=====================================================================
My son consumes most of the remaining 20%.

So as long as you don't eat more then 10 Blufin Tuna's a week you might be alright...

They are playing with the wording in this article. And don't tell me that when we use to blast bombs directly into the water that fish didn't have radioactive contamination. They just didn't have the technology to measure it back in the 1950s and 1960s. And what is 10 times? What is the allowable limit?
Good information but I'm not sure of it's value.

English is such a fun language. Does "the first time a huge migrating fish has been shown to carry radioactivity such a distance" mean that on previous occasions they dropped it half way across and had to start over? ;-)

Thanks for sharing Joeski1. Another reason to turn away from Nuclear energy.
Seems the time has come we need personal devices to see how radio active & toxic our food is.
Is this another way that these big greed industries create jobs?
Do you think this sounds like a good business opportunity? Invent and market a personal pocket-size portable Geiger Counter to carry when shopping?
