Energy plan hopes to create jobs

Democrat and Chronicle -- Rochester Institute of Technology president Bill Destler says he was an admitted skeptic about battery-stored electricity running motor vehicles. Then he built his own electric scooter.

“I discovered that I could travel 40 miles for about 15 cents where the same trip would have cost me $4 in gas,” Destler said. Moreover, the scooter scooted more efficiently on battery power and unused electricity was more productively stored. The experiment made Destler a believer.

What Destler discovered on a small scale is essentially the concept, and hope, behind a major project at Eastman Business Park, the former Kodak Park, to develop and manufacture batteries and other energy storage devices. If all highways are electrified, there's no need for large batteries. The smaller batteries would get recharged as one drives on the highway.

Safe to operate in all kinds of weather and on local roads only. For winter use, an all weather four wheel drive vehicle with large knobby tires comes to mind. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost, if possible. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012

It may work or it may not work, but if Destler wants to make a go of it he should be the one taking the risk and either reaping the rewards or wallowing in the failure. All the greenie projects lately have been failures in the respect that final products were never produced. The ones that should have been taking the risks were instead rewarded with boatloads of money tossed to them by Obozo. He said his CAR would take $4 in gas for the 40 miles, not that his scooter gets 40 MPG. 15 cents of electricity for 40 miles on the scooter would be well over 100 MPG.
