The best way to show the oil companies we won't stand for higher prices is to cut back as much as possible, anywhere possible. Not everyone can afford a newer car the get better mpg but we can walk, carpool, ride a bike or put off a shopping trip or other trip just to cut back as much as possible. If EVERY person in the US did this...........the oil companies would certainly feel it............where it hurts........their pocketbooks!!!

I feel if the Media and we would stop talking about this subject the price would fall in line and Oil Companies would not have a clue as to what to charge. ie: The paper says Gas is going up .20 cents a gal. Soon after, the price of gas goes up .20 cents a gal WHEN OIL GOES DOWN! America is TELLING big oil just what we except to pay per gal on the next fill.

Unfortunately it looks as if the prices will continue to rise and since most of us need it (my job is 35.2 miles from my home... too far to walk or ride a bicycle).... we can't stop it.

These rising fuel prices have absolutely nothing to do with Libya or the unrest in the Middle East or anyplace else. The rising fuels costs are due to the increasing greed of the big corporations and the ruling class elite who are determined to destroy the middle class society.

Gas prices will get so high in the next 2 years that civilization will break down and we will seek to escape the cities on foot looking for food and shelter.

I think with the freezes this winter in areas there will be more gas used to transport perishable foods that we could see gas prices continue to rise as demand increases. The only variable could be Japan and their lag in consumption temporarily. But they are resilient and will be rebuilding quickly and getting back down to business.

It is not the Oil Industry has us at their Mercy they have a Monopoly. The real questions is: When was the last time you saw a 76 Gasoline Truck Refilling a 76 Gas Station? When was the last time you saw a Shell Gasoline Truck Refilling a Shell Gas Station? When was the last time you saw a Chevron Gasoline Truck Refilling a Chevron Gas Station? When was the last time you saw a Texaco Gasoline Truck Refilling a Texaco Gas Station? When was the last time you saw an Arco Gasoline Truck refilling an Arco Gasoline Station? The Last time you saw a Gasoline Truck refilling your local 76, Shell, Chevron, Texaco, or other name brand gas station. Did then name on the side of the truck match the Gas Station or was it the same truck that refilled the competitors down the street?
About 2 or 3 years ago in the Seattle Washington Area a few gas stations had Tainted Gasoline to the point where the vehicles that refilled their had to have Maintenance done in order for them to run. The Brand Names of the Gas Stations were: Shell, Chevron, 76, Texaco, and ARCO. Why? Because ALL THE GASOLINE FOR ALL OF THESE GAS STATIONS CAME FROM THE SAME REFINERY!! Which means they Oil Industry is a Monopoly in Violation of the Sherman Antitrust Act and the Back in 1911 Standard Oil Company was broken up by the Supreme Court of the United State in order to have fair trade in competition in keeping 1 person or group of individuals from setting the price of Gasoline and Oil.

It seems that the gas companies have us at their mercy and can do whatever they wish. They raise the price per gallon 20 to 30 cents when there is an increase in barrel cost but lower it 2 or 3 cents when there is a decrease. ?????????

I think we are at or near the peak; at least I hope so. I think that OPEC didn't even want prices at this level. The market can only bare it for so long, and then it will start to affect people; less shopping, trips, etc...
When that starts happening, the prices will drop again.

It is not a true bell curve because GasBuddy determined the price catagories beforehand.

@JeffNStef: I noticed the bell curve too, it is pretty neat. Thinking back to my evil stat-4710 course in college, I think that sort of curve indicates a genuinely random, unbiased sample of poll-takers.
But anyway, what I get from those results is that most people think that gas prices will flirt with the $4.00/gallon mark and the variation that we see is probably a result of what gas costs them right now, i.e. most people selected how much it will take for gas to hit $4.00/gallon in their area.

The results make almost a perfect bell curve- interesting. Most people aren't too optomistic, but yet not too pesimistic.

I'm tired of hearing that the gas station owners aren't making money off the price increases! Bullshit! How can the Liberty in my area have gas for 3.49, the Getty 3.65 and the Bp and Shell be 3.68 and 3.69? All these stations are on the same road within a mile of each other. Someone is making money on this deal and of course we're the ones getting screwed!

As much as they can plus some. Any reason to raise the price, like it rained, it didn't rain, it's cold in the artic or it might he hot in the summer. They just let the ships at anchor and wait for the price of oil to go up further.

How would anyone know except for the people that manipulate prices. No matter what happens in the world, its still the same price coming out of the ground in Saudi Arabia because all the wells have been dug and the infrastructure is in. They and the other countries can pump as much as they want to manipulate prices and they are the ones who should take this poll.

And what happens when the "Wave of Democracy in the Middle East" washes up on the shores of Saudi Arabia? Other than US government officials having a collective nervous breakdown that is....
Once the unrest and demonstrations start there against the Saudi royal rulers/dictators, I believe we will all yearn for the good old days of $4.50/gallon gasoline!

I expect that it will reach $4.00/gal. The speculators haven't made enough money yet. Remember when supply and demand still determined prices?

I get a feeling that the prices have peaked once this Libyan situation gets under control. There sure has been an awful lot of unrest lately all over in the middle east and it is downright scary.
