Other than your rear-view and side mirrors, which type of assistance device helps you the most while backing up?
Obstacle warning sensor
Camera
Special mirrors
None of these

as we get older , you need to turn your head and check behind you a couple of times. the mirrors help , but you need to see with your own eyes. not as objects appear larger in the mirror.

I use my windows. I turn my head and look out several times from the right, left and rear. Its a little exercise too.

Nothing can replace getting your lazy butt out of the drivers seat walking to the back of your vehicle and looking.

A friend owns a body shop. He has had a few customers that scrapped the side of their cars while looking at the rear view camera. Probably better to stick with the sensors.

I have been driving for 43 years with NO mishaps using only rear view and side mirrors. When they come out with new cars with all these new helps most times they are more of a hindrance than a help. Also the more electronics added the more things to go wrong.

When I'm backing my van, my side view mirrors show everything but what is within a few feet, but I can see even there as I turn to back in, whether into a parking space or driveway. I don't see how any of these aids would greatly improve things. My wife's Honda is another matter. It's hard to tell where the back ends, no matter how hard you try. A backup camera might be a useful thing in a car like that, where the corners are so rounded off that you can't see them. I can't see how a warning sensor could help, unless you could set it for a specific distance that would still allow you time to react. Otherwise you could get a false sense of security or have endless false alarms. Who needs that?

Some posters must have cars without blind spots, and others are all below age 40 where bodily mobility peaks, but I love my sensors. Without them or a camera, I don't think one has any idea if a small object is behind the car on the ground.

if you cant turn around and look for yourself, or if you cant see around and behind you, then you probably arent driving the right vehicle. sorry to say, thats what test drives are for.

2011 F150 SuperCrew V6 3.7L 2WD
added backup sensors and camera
helps a lot because you can not see because it's a big truck
and I'm 6' tall but still, a lot of truck
especially those small yellow poles when back in in to a parking space

I'm old fashioned. I don't use any mirror including side and rear view, no special devices. I turn around in my seat and use my eyes. I can backup easily that way and it allows me to drive backwards in a straight line.

Mostly I'm sure the special devices are only on the new vehicles which I can't afford. But my side and rear view mirrors are set to where I can see most everything along with the small dome in the left side mirror helps me keep up with my blind spot. So eventually I'll have one of the new cars with a camera in back. Here's hoping !!!

I don't think any of these are necessary unless you have a service vehicle or truck with no rear window...

We have a ram on the back end to shove whatever out of the way if it is a tight space.
