Depends on what someone calls average. I would say my vehicle is Average... to existing standards. When considering the age, model, etc... I would consider it ABOVE AVERAGE....

EPA mileage for my car, a 2000 Nissan Altima, is 20/28 city/highway mpg. The actual mileage on my car obviously varies depending on how I drive. Initially, I was a more spirited driver and gas prices were about half the price they are today when I got the car in 2004. As gas prices have increased, I tried all sorts of things to increase my mileage, but found that simply changing my driving habits is the most effective way. I keep my tire pressure maxed out and drive very patiently around city streets. On highways, I cruise between 60-65 (rather than 75-80). Now my mileage looks something like 24/33 city/highway. So basically, my car went from 'Typical' to 'Pretty Good' (IMHO) from simply changing how I drive.
