Waste Management switching from diesel to CNG to power waste trucks

GasBuddy Blog -- Waste Management is going to throw oil based fuels under the bus- or waste truck. WM is the latest in a growing number of companies switching their fleets to CNG, compressed natural gas, according to several sources. In addition to making the switch over to its vehicles, WM also is opening natural gas filling stations in various parts of the United States, prompted by some state and local funding to help increase the use of CNG.

In a previous statement, WM said they would increase their use of CNG trucks in their fleet- from five to 40 in the Houston area alone, as well as adding 25 in Ohio. Overall, WM currently has 1,400 CNG vehicles in its fleet of 17,000, but is rapidly converting existing diesel trucks to CNG as the cost savings...

As my home is heated during the Winter here in the cold north of the U.P of Michigan the cost of natural gas will sky rocket which would increase my winter heating costs significantly.

Buses and many trucks have been using CNG for a long time. Use it for close in waste pick up and refuel at the end of the day, do not use CNG for long distance road travel or you maybe stuck some place where there is no CNG resupply. Waste Management recovers methane from their landfills to use in some of their trucks. With more and more CNG vehicle use, keep the price of natural gas low for home heating. Honda has a CNG vehicle available with a refill kit for the home from the natural gas pipeline. But, Big Oil continues to sell fuel and natural gas on the world market for higher prices, there will be NO price reduction for the cost of fuel or natural gas IN the US. 'Coming out of the closet' Barry will support natural gas and oil production for sale on the world market to pay for his ‘spending gone wild’ addiction and receive the huge federal tax income for oil. Barry's economy is not improving but continues to hurt the population. The US ‘oil and natural gas resources’ belong to the citizens of this country and are to be used by those same citizens! Speculators, manipulators and the banks continue to unfairly and unjustly make the driving public pay higher prices at the pump for their benefit. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost, if possible! The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!
