In its June edition, the NADA Guide will project the average trade-in value for a typically equipped 2011 Leaf SV electric car at $23,975 -- 95 percent of its sticker price of $25,280, after the $7,500 federal tax credit available to buyers who purchase the vehicle new.

If the one year valuation accounts for the gov't rebate, I predict a pretty sharp decline in the 2nd year!

Why would anyone want a car with a potential battery replacement of several thousand dollars? 95% is a bogus number and only an idiot would consider one at that price.

They may keep their value but they still don't have the range to go very far.

I'll wait 'til they get out of experimental status, have better range and batteries are cheaper... I keep vehicles for a long time compared to most...

Maybe they will hold their price, but that just means that there's no more point to buying a used one than a new one.

That means that the asking price of a one year old Leaf will be greater than what the car cost new since trade-in is at 95%. (More crap reporting), wasted my time reading it.

Can you still get the federal tax credit if you buy a used one from a dealer? Current owners may start trading them in before their batteries die if they can get close to their full purchase price.

Bring on CNG vehicles with fuel stations a plenty and the electrics will drop in sales. If we could get CNG at a fair price less than $2 a gallon it would be great for us all. I am afraid though that Big Oil will start charging us world market set prices of three times that. Big business will get richer but they will tell us that we have a cleaner planet and less foreign oil.

I don't like the looks of the Prius nor the Leaf! I looked into buying the Volt and the salesman wanted 15% more for it that the suggested selling price. His demonstrator was dead on the showroom floor and he couldn't get the door open. It opened after he found a place under the hood to connect some electricity. He told me that it uses premium only for the gas motor!
