Bottom line...gas prices need to stay at a reasonable price. Govt needs to get this in control. If they can bail out companies and countries, why can't they get a grip on these gas prices?

much of high oil prices are driven by fear of loss of supply, which means, those who need the raw material will pay what it takes to get it.
And that means, companies can jack the prices sky high at the pump.

East coast refineries again operated at only "62.1% of their available capacity".
It means either they have cut production to boost prices, or people are not buying their overpriced gasoline.

Oil inventories up, refined oil products down, price of gas up. Appears that refineries are working at reduced capacity to keep pump prices elevated.

These figures could impart better info if they were a little more specific. Crude and other inventories can increase and decrease for a lot of different reasons; and while DOE provides some of that info, there are a lot of relevant factors that are left pretty sketchy. For one thing demand/consumption info in psarticular is rather lacking. It would shed a lot more light on the subject to have that (and other) info included; but my expectations for that happening, considering the bureaucratic source are about what one might expect.

Oil inventory is up and gas inventory is down - where is the oil going? Oil supply is not the cause of gas prices going up!

BIG and unexpected increase in crude supplies barely dents prices of crude in market. Why bother with these all but meaningless numbers ? Check the greed and speculators index for true meaning.
