After the gasoline price Mardi Gras ended last week, things have since calmed down. Gas stations slowed down after the price hike parties that were abundant across the United States and Canada last week, but more price increases are likely coming soon.

While the situation initially cooled off last week and earlier this week after the tragedy in Japan, oil markets are again heating up, in a similar fashion to the crisis at Japanese nuclear facilities, and similar to that situation, there may be little we can do to cool off this upcoming round of price increases.

While I await final calculations before alerting some of you in the Great Lakes states to possible price hikes via Speedway tomorrow, there's no doubt in my mind...

Gas prices have taken off for a long time now, just more fuel for a deeper recession, higher food prices and more disposable income spent on fuel. Alternative fuels from algae, bacteria, the bio mass and the waste stream AND renewable energy from solar, wind, hydro, thermal, tidal and/or nuclear.

It is way too early to be worrying about if there will be enough supply to meet summer demand. All of the wrecked cars in Japan that are out of service and not using gas in Japan should help offset some of the fuel use in Japan.

The last time I looked at this post it had 36 votes.

Now it has 44.

I must ask, why does this rate the top article of the day to anyone who wants gas prices to go down???

///////

But we must remember, there are speculators on GB.

Hopefully we will all keep things into prospective.

After today's climb of nearly $4.00/bbl, WTI is +$1.65 to $103.07/bbl
in overnight electronic trading. Gas prices will be climbing.

This is absolutely ridiculous. There is no VALID reason for oil or gas prices to increase. We have adequate supplies, abundant reserves, & there is no real threat of stoppage from our two most Major suppliers to the USA. That is Canada & Mexico. We can even increase some on imports from Canada & pump more, very quickly, within the USA. Other countries are more dependent on OPEC than the USA is. This is 90% speculators using fear to make themselves more money & that can be stopped within the USA.

ALSO WE CAN DEMAND ALL USA PRODUCED OIL STAY IN THE USA, UNLESS WE PRODUCE MORE THAN NEEDED THEN ONLY SHIPPED BY AGREEMENT TO OUR ALLIES, FRIENDS IF NEEDED. Any other excess would have a high export tariff just as the offending countries have done to us. With the provision no exports would be sold to foreign market speculators. OH YES it can be done, & should. If we find any US exported oil going to speculators then they are cut off from any future shipments. The US Government takes similar actions on multiple issues constantly.

have not "filled" my tank for the last month...only buy a few gallons once or twice per week, have stopped buying everything except essentials for survival, hunker down for a deepest depression ever.......until our government decides to side with the American people, and not with the international corporations, banks too big to fail, and other theives.

Lets just stop everything and raise it to lets say, $15.00 per gallon. That should halt everyone and everything in our economy. Any idiot can see what high pump prices do to the economy of this country.

“walking is always an option”

Right, I’m really going to be able to walk 25 miles to the nearest grocery store pulling my little red wagon so I can get the stuff home. Walking is NOT always an option.

Darn it! Prices were just starting to drop 3¢ and 2¢ at a time after 4pm this past week :(
Oh yeah, abcdMA -- we can always walk. I don't have to sleep, I could just leave the house at 2am to get to work by 7-8AM, depending on where my contingency assignment is. I do walk every lunch break -- past dozens of foreclosure notices. Today's assignment was in a nice neighborhood, one of the most historically stable in this little city. Today it is in the same shape as the more derelict areas in terms of foreclosures. For the first time in my life, I saw houses on Court Street trashed and abandoned.

Gas prices going up? No surprise. It's going to get a lot worse if the riots and revolutions spread throughout the M.E. Not to worry, though. Our politicians are right on top of it - they'll be building another windmill or setting up another solar array any minute now. Before you know it, alternative energy will be all the way up to providing 2% of our energy needs. No need to drill for oil, that's too old-fashioned.
