If a boycott needs to happen, has to happen in the millions, plus these companies would probably just send it overseas, since they are doing it already.. Need to get our elected federal official involved to get the price moved down, we have almost no power on this

Perhaps the other station is busy because not everyone buys products based on price alone. Maybe the other station is cleaner, has a more convenient corner, sells milk, cigarettes, coffee etc cheaper. It is no different than any other product like clothes, coffee, soda, hotels, restaurant where customers are willing to pay more for a better quality product (real or perceived).

I dont understand it but I agree with "Mikey," you see a high priced station and one across the steet 20 cents lower and the high priced station is jammed. I have asked that question before with no good replies on why.

The problem is that people are stupid.
Just look at the highest priced station in your area. There are still people filling up there, right?

Take your gas money to where it stretches the farthest. Best boycott ever - deny the gougers your hard earned $$.

Gasbuddy helps us become better informed consumers. Better information allows us to reward those retailers with better pricing. If we're all using Gasbuddy to research prices, then the higher priced retailers will feel the pain of softer sales and come into line with the market.

"Boycott the highest price in your area"
Is this not why Gas Buddy and all the local sites exist??? DUH!
We post prices on the go with the mobile app so we know when and where to fill up and which places to avoid.
Boycotting the highest priced stations is why Gas Buddy exists!
Holy crap.

I boycot highest prices. That's why I love gas buddy. I check prices before I leave home and plan the trip to fill up in the places that are not "gouging" so badly. i.e. I filled up going through Salisbury or Rockwell at $3.56. When I got to New London prices were $3.74!!! That is riduculous to have that huge a difference 20 miles down the road!!

Actually, I think it's more the speculators than the oil companies who are at fault for the mess we're in.

No it is not full of oil people. Most here have the common sense to know boycotts on gas will never work.

Why, Amy? Just because someone presents reality and backs it with facts does not mean they like a situation. It only means they recognize what is going on. Just about every "oil guy" here - meaning those who show why not buying Shell on Tuesday, or not buying gas on Christmas won't affect the price - also spends time suggesting ways for folks to use less energy. I don't think "oil guys" would put in the effort to sell less product.

anayguy: You seen messages like this on Facebook but not recently? And the messages on Facebook were not talkign about boycotting other companies or not boycotting by text messaging?
I may be in the minority here but I have no idea what you mean.
But thanks for posting gas prices, and thanks to to Domer2011 for helping keeping other Gas Buddy members informed in order for them to better informed consumers.

Max, I already answered his call for a Texaco boycott. There were 3 -1996, 2002, and 2008. In each case, the company grew tremendously in the year following the boycott call. He's up to 47 posts, and has added nothing to the site since joining. I usually don't use the ignore function, but he's borderline.

"Search engine Texaco boycott! My Example of the day."
What am I looking for when I "Search engine Texaco boycott". I can't find anything relevant regarding prices. Are there other key words I should search for? And if I'm searching for Texaco, why boycott Exxon USA and/or Petro-Canada Canada? Does that mean the boycott of Texaco is over and prices have gone down at Texaco but not at other gas stations?
But in addition to suggesting boycotting, wouldn't posting gas prices, once in a while, help members know what prices are in their community, to help them be more intelligent or knowledgeable shoppers?

Domer2011: Still waiting for your example of a successful gas boycott.
The primary purpose of this site is to help us identify gas prices so that we can make informed decisions when going to purchase fuel. So please provide some price updates so that others can benefit from the information and make smarter buying decisions.
