Pardon; I'm trying to create Hot Button Links to GB pages. If I'm not using the correct forum; please move it and advise me. Thank you.

A little help please; inquiring minds want to know:

????? has left you a message on my whiteboard. Eight members asked me today.

"I am not familiar with 'Pumping up' an article. There are not many articles that are worth the read. A little OJT please."

Do we give them each a fish; or teach them how to fish?

How do advertisers pay you; by the click, or by thoughtful response; such as posting a respectable article or respectable response to an article or ???

Do not our advertisers pay for the gas cards; and the access to prices that members post out of dedication? Please help us to help you do your job. OHMS

Please review review mu white board to confirm responses to me.

thanks jrsva; one of my points.

Today I've had seven (solicited) members ask me how the "pump Up" system is supposed to work. Later we'll cover how it is not working as well as possible.

Good point. I assume you are referring to the Top 5 on the Home page and the Top 5 By Day for the current day. It does seem that those two lists should be identical. I wondered if it had to do with when the list updates but no, both lists update instantly when a vote is cast.

At this moment the Top 5 By Day are:
56 EIA petroleum supply
52 Louisiana refinery
40 Free gasoline in TX
40 Distracted driving
40 Offshore industry

The top 5 on the Home page are:
60 Solar firm that
56 EIA petroleum supply
55 Solar industry fights
52 Louisiana refinery
49 Obama wants quick

Only two of the five are the same; this merits some explanation from the Mods . . . .

Thanks for your input; you wrote "If you have an article on the Home page it will also appear on the Top 5 By Day list at the same time but remember, that is a moving list." Shouldn't All currently active lists move together?

This morning they have agreed perfectly.

Voting to “pump up” an article increases the vote count for that article. The top5 vote getters for the current day appear on the Home page. The day starts at midnight ET regardless of your time zone. The “Top 5 Articles By Day” is a moving list for the current day. As I am writing at 0055 ET, there are only two articles on it, both with 15 votes. The first 5 articles posted after midnight are automatically on the Home page. Once a 6th article has been posted, the top 5 will be on the list based on the votes.

The Top 5 for previous days should be a fixed list, namely the top 5 as they existed when the day ended at midnight; however, it is still possible to vote for older articles as long as they remain on the All Recent News page. The votes tally on the By Day list but they no longer affect the Home-page articles.

If you have an article on the Home page it will also appear on the Top 5 By Day list at the same time but remember, that is a moving list.

When you click on an article on the All Recent News page in order to read the comments, you can return to the All Recent News page by using your browser’s Back button.

Can somebody help me with the text on and beneath the green voting button? It reads "pump to homepage"; which apparently refers to the "Top 5 Recent News\GasBuddy Blog" box near the bottom left of the home page.

Voting to "Pump it up" has an immediate and obvious effect on the "vote count box" adjacent to the green "pump it up" box. This new vote would seem to eventually have an effect on the number on votes shown on the "Top 5 Articles By Day" page which remains in permanent history beneath the "Top 5 Articles By Day".

I question the relationship because I have repeatedly had Top 5 articles on the home page which never showed on the Top 5 articles page. Thank you in advance.

Thanks; your link is helpful; but where to put it? Like the hot button links I created, they go back to the target exactly as it was the moment the link was created.

Once at "All Recent News " you can vote for one or all. But you can only see a snippet on Recent Gas Price News. If you want to see other members' posts, or respond to the post yourself, you can't get directly back to the voting page.

"Back to topics" link sends you to "Message Forum - Browse Topics" where you can not vote.

Kinda like the TV remote "goback" button, so you can switch back and forth between two programs you're trying to watch.

Voting for news articles can be done at only one place, the All Recent News page. There is a link to it right below the list of Top 5 news articles in the left column of the Home page. This is the only way to access this page; there is no link to it in the main menu at the top of each page or in the menu list at the bottom of each page.

Note to the MODS: There really should be a link to the All Recent News page in the main menu.

Look across the top

Home|Gas Prices|Points & Prizes|Forums|Community|Gas Price Maps|Mobile|

and much more.

I'm wonder if it's they don't bother to look instead of can't find. Seems people want everything handed to them these days.

Great post, and well worded, too. I agree!

If you are looking to vote on a news article. just click ALL news articles, and you will see a page full of them you can actually vote on. That way you can pump them up if you like them or not pump them up if you don't .

I hope that helps ya some.

Numerous buddies have expressed that they don't understand how to pump up / vote; can't find explanation / instructions on the site. I've written to several moderators to seek official answers; but I'm not using correct lingo for the pages, so they say they don't understand my questions; so they cannot answer me. On the FAQs page; contributors who developed answers to the FAQs are given credit for their contributions. With their knowledge; they seemed to me to be the GO TO buddies for correct answers. PD wrote that he doesn't follow my question, so he can't help me; CC sounds swamped with GB tasks, our lingo doesn't align.

When I tried to return to the FAQs page to locate other contributors to question; I am no longer directed to that page. You'll be a ten ear member next month, and referred to around the continent, but your white board is empty and unavailable to me; and unless you approve my long standing buddy request, I can't use member messaging to communicate with you.

I am trying to help; not to criticize. I've encountered too many dedicated GB members who have acquired a "Us versus Them" attitude. How may I help?

PS After consulting with numerous members; I chose the "talk back to us" forum because I want the MODS to know that I'm working with them toward a common goal. If my awkward links help members learn how to better post and bump up topics; there should be more activity and advertising revenue. Some hot buttons designed into the program should be superior to my clumsy links.

Finally, I see numerous highly skilled members who are retired or underemployed; how about bartering some gas drawing coupons for non critical tasks that could lighten the load for the moderators? Thank you; all the best
